Content is King, Marketing is Queen – Video by Gary Vaynerchuk

    Book image of Crush It!

    Book image of Crush It!

Gary Vaynerchuk author of “Crush It!” and founder of Winelibrary.TV a social web 2.0 media entrepreneur, puts some of the focus of his success and personal branding strategy down to understanding that “Content is King, Marketing is Queen”.

Whatever the format of your Content be it video, images, audio or text, when it comes to putting it on the internet and connecting and creating awareness this can only be done through Marketing. Work hard on the Content and be smart on the Marketing, make use of the social networks and understand how the game is changing, citing things like twitter, social networks, using online video, how using a camera and talking about wine got him noticed and how he now has the same agent representation as Oprah Winfrey.

He describes his entrepreneurial nature from young and how that led to turning the family business turnover of $3 million to $60 million in five years.

Paranormal Activity will demand it marketing make it a success

Oren Peli Israeli filmmaker made Paranormal Activity for $15,000 and shot this tale of a young couple who videotaped the strange noises they hear inside a room in a house. Dubbed the Blair Witch Project on steroids, what makes this story different is the fact it has over 1 million people will have seen it before national release in the US due to social media marketing grossed $7 million from 144 theatres over a weekend.

The film originally picked up by Speilberg’s DreamWorks, but marketing was by Paramount. Paramount tried carefully to develop and manage the phenomenon with free midnight screenings in college campus towns. Then encouraged fans to demand the movie in their town via an online petition campaign.

The “demand it” campaign was touted on the Eventful site as “The First Ever Major Film Release Decided By You”.
Founded in 2004, Eventful is the leading events website which enables its community of users to discover, promote, share and create events. see http://about.eventful.com/ for more info.

This reminds me of a film created a by team called Four Eyed Monsters that debuted on Youtube and it being the first ever feature length film to be posted, in addition to creating an online video blog, they produced accompanying webisodes and used social media to market, promote and sell the film.
They encouraged fans to buy tickets at cinemas they were touring, so they could advance book a cinema and showing the film had an audience wanting to see it. In addition they also made it available as a paid for download from iTunes and also as a mail order dvd.

Useful links worth checking up on.

Youtube hits 1 billion video views

    You hits 1 billion views

    You hits 1 billion views

On Youtube viewers were greeted with a 1BN daily views logo, I knew it was coming but not sure when. I can remember when Myspace was creaking when it was nearing to 70-80 million user accounts and had to spend time temporarily undergoing maintenance to expand and manage the traffic.

In words of Chad Hurley from the Youtube blog he credit the success of Youtube’s achievement being down to the following factors.

  • Speed matters: Videos should load and play back quickly.
  • Clip culture is here to stay: Short clips are voraciously consumed and perfect for watching a wide variety of content.
  • Open platforms open up possibility: Content creation isn’t our business; it’s yours.
We wanted to create a place where anyone with a video camera, a computer, and an Internet connection could share their life, art, and voice with the world, and in many cases make a living from doing so.
  • No doubt it’s not without it’s detractors, this has been a year to really test Youtube and it’s ability to handle traffic.

Barack Obama’s inauguration, Michael Jackson’s death, Usain Bolts new world record, and Susan Boyle mania have crashed many sites.

Both Google and Twitter crashed when search for Michael Jackson was entered.

    see

    http://news.icm.ac.uk/technology/google-twitter-crash-at-news-of-jackson’s-death/2322/

No doubt this will cause even more overcrowding and opportunities in the marketplace for those viral specialists and video marketing companies seeking to effectively gain and enhance client exposure.

We at HD Productions use and embrace online web video marketing and media production,
understanding the impact that video can bring to a client, their brand, product and service.

Businesses not considering a video strategy are seriously shooting themselves in the foot and
hampering their own web marketing and company development efforts.

Like saying goes, you’ve got to be, in it to win it.

There is also plenty of other sites commenting Youtube’s 1 billion views and are worth having a look as well.

Great news for Sony Xdcam EX1 and EX3 users, Apple Mac’s Snow Leopard Sony SxS express card bug now fixed and is available for download from Sony site. Previously the SxS card caused a kernal panic on both the Macbook pro laptops with the express slot.

Now users who have upgraded to Snow Leopard and Final Cut Studio can now use this application with less of a concern and worry prior to this fix.

The new release of Final Cut Pro 7 part of the Final Cut Studio. While FCP 7 has updated the log and transfer interface to work directly with P2, RED and AVCintra, plus an automated import mode as soon as the card/drive mounts.

    SXS cards for XDcamEX

This is not the same for the Sony Xdcam EX cameras, the workflow for FCP 6 is identical to FCP 7 and will consist of installing the called Clip Browser software from Sony and the SxS card drivers. In addition you will need XDCAM Transfer utility to playback the video clips, read/amend the clip metadata, create subclips, and re-wrap them into MOV files for editing with Final Cut Pro.

Final Cut Pro 7 – Final Cut Studio @ Apple London

    Final Cut Pro!

Today I had a look at the new Final Çut Studio as it now simply called, not version 3 as expected. I was invited courtesy of MacVideo to have a look at the new features demonstrated by Apple Staff, specialising in Video market.

Whilst it boasts over a 100 new features native transfer support in Final Cut Pro 7, one of them is log and transfers for XDcam Ex,you still have to use Sony’s own Log and Transfer Utility. But if you are using Panasonic P2, AVCintra or RED no problem and can be set to locate and ingest a mounted card.

We had a brief overview of the new Pro Res Codecs of which there are three including
Pro Res 4444 that carries an alpha channel as well another for multicam use and proxy version of suitable for offline laptop editing.

New speed change or time remapping features, plus i Chat theatre integration, background transcoding with ability to cluster or network distributed encoding in the background whilst you still edit.

Motion 3 supports shadows, multiple light reflections as well plus loads of other stuff already featured online or commented about. But a reminder this version is only Intel compatible and will not run on a G5 or G4 processor.
